Why we built a Morse code translator that shows its working.

Morse Code Translator Pro is a free, browser-based Morse code translator built for one purpose: to make Morse code accurate enough to trust and clear enough to learn from. Every dot, dash and silence it produces comes from the same timing rules a radio operator would use, not from an approximation chosen for convenience.

What This Translator Does

The tool encodes text to Morse code and decodes Morse code back to text as you type. There is no convert button and no upload step, because the whole thing runs inside your browser.

  • Encodes 63 characters: 26 letters, 10 numerals, 18 punctuation marks and symbols, and 9 accented forms.
  • Decodes dots and dashes back to text, accepting periods, hyphens, middots, underscores and en-dashes.
  • Plays the message as a 620 Hz CW radio tone, flashes it on a beacon and sends it to the phone's vibration motor, all from one compiled schedule, so the three stay in sync.
  • Adjusts character speed from 5 to 40 words per minute, tone from 300 to 1000 Hz and volume, with Farnsworth spacing for learners.
  • Copies the result, shares a link that reopens the same message, or exports the signal timeline as a TXT file.

How We Keep It Accurate

Timings follow the PARIS standard exactly: one dot lasts 1200 ÷ words per minute milliseconds, a dash lasts three dots, and the gaps run one, three and seven units. The character set follows International Morse as defined for radiocommunication by the International Telecommunication Union in Recommendation ITU-R M.1677-1. Nothing is rounded for convenience, which is why the transmission time we display is the time a message genuinely takes. The alphabet chart is generated from the same dictionary the encoder reads, so the reference can never drift away from the tool.

Private by Construction

Translation, audio, the beacon and the chart all run in your browser using JavaScript that has already been downloaded. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored or analysed, and once the page has loaded the tool keeps working with the network switched off. Our privacy policy sets out the full detail, including the little that is processed.

Built to Be Learned From

Most Morse tools print a result and stop there. This one shows its working. The timing and spacing rules are laid out in units and in milliseconds, an eight-stage diagram walks a real word through encoding and decoding, and the study plan follows the method German psychologist Ludwig Koch published in 1931, still the fastest documented route to 20 words per minute. Operators will find the conventions familiar: both the American Radio Relay League and the International Amateur Radio Union run active CW programmes.
